Case Study
Exploring the Blue Ocean of Ultra-Heavy Oil
Published on: 2024/04/11
Location
Shengli Oilfield, Karamay City, Xinjiang Province, China
Summary
Daily fluid production increased by 26.84%, and the oil-to-gas ratio rose by 42.16%
Reduced annual steam injection costs by 600,000 RMB on average
Achieved an average energy savings of 61.13%
Objective
Address Pump Rod Sagging Issue
When the wellhead temperature reaches 50°C, production parameters are reduced to maintain production for 10 days. When the temperature drops to 40.5°C, the belt-driven beam pump exhibits rod sagging and preparation for injection starts.
Insufficient Well Inclination at Pump Setting Point
The well inclination at the pump setting point is around 60°, limited by rod and tubing wear, affecting pump setting depth and restricting production.
Results
First application of the all-metal intelligent conical screw pump IntelliCPCP anti-regulation system, achieving stable production of ultra-heavy oil.
Through the innovative anti-regulation system, the gap of the screw pump is effectively increased when the oil viscosity rises, reducing pump torque and increasing the throughput of ultra-heavy oil. Near the wellbore temperature, the viscosity increased to as high as 20,000 mPa·s.
Achieved stable production of rod pumps in horizontal sections through wellbore and tubing force distribution algorithms.
IntelliCPCP integrates the downhole tubing and rod force distribution algorithm, which monitors tubing and rod torque in real-time and distributes tension and gravity between surface and downhole to achieve stable production in an 82° well for 1 year and 7 months. During pump inspection, no wear was detected on the sucker rod.

The IntelliCPCP intelligent conical screw pump combines integration and intelligence, offering significant potential for improvement.
